Brown Printing Company operates a 600 employee printing company in East Greenville, Pennsylvania. The printing
operations include a 20,000 Gallon Per Day (GPD) wastewater facility with a direct discharge. Due to the age of the existing
system, Brown Printing Company elected to have a new wastewater treatment system installed with the old system
abandoned. In order to meet potentially more stringent discharge requirements, a Kubota flat plate membrane was
selected and purchased directly.
Keystone Engineering Group was selected as the design-build firm to complete the engineering, obtain the permits, bid the
project, and oversee the construction. This was completed utilizing our guaranteed maximum price (GMP) approach. Close
coordination was required between Keystone, Brown Printing Company, and Ovivo (equipment supplier) due to the prepurchase
of the major equipment. The project was completed on time and under budget.
The new treatment system includes equalization, fine screening, anoxic zone for future denitrification, pre-aeration tank,
aeration basin, UV disinfection and aerobic digestion for waste sludge. The plant is exceeding performance requirements and
producing effluent with BOD less than 1 mg/l, ammonia less than 1 mg/l, phosphorus less than 0.03 mg/l, and non-detectable limits for total suspended solids.
